James Graves has over 25 years of experience in business and higher education and has worked in private practice as an organizational consultant, executive coach, advisor and clinical psychologist since 1990. A licensed psychologist in California, James holds doctorate degrees from Duke University and the California Graduate Institute, is an active member of the California Psychological Association and has served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association.
With over 30 publications to date in peer-reviewed journals, trade magazines, association newsletters and five chapters in a two-volume book on workplace violence prevention to his credit, he also holds a fifth degree black belt and instructor certification in the non-violent martial art of Aikido, which he has taught internationally since 1987.
“I was promoted several months ago and find the content of what Jim (Graves) and I discussed and the coaching process as a whole to be invaluable in my new position. Interestingly enough, some of the same issues (triggers that previously ended in poor, ineffectual responses on my part) have arisen in my new job, but today the outcome is completely different because of my understanding of emotional intelligence and specifically because of my time with Jim.” —Scott Smith, Regional Manager, Calvin Klein
