Alastair has been active in organization consultancy
for over 20 years and is an experienced management practitioner,
consultant, coach and facilitator. Based in Oxford,
England, he is a Katzman Consulting associate. Alastair
works with clients' unique cultures, challenges and
business aspirations to convert strategy into practice
achieving meaningful change and realizing long-term
organization development.
His work typically involves organization
redesign and integration, executive coaching, leadership
and team assessment and development and facilitation.
With an approach that is dynamic, pragmatic and challenging,
Alastair's knowledge, insight and enthusiasm are evident
in his work that has taken him throughout Europe, Africa,
the Middle East and North America where he has experience
in a variety of sectors including Financial and Professional
Services, Health, Education, IT, Advertising, Leisure,
Insurance, Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, Mining, Manufacturing,
Automotive and Government, including overseas assignments
for the World Bank. His experience in Financial and
Professional Services includes work with AT Kearney,
Citibank, Deloitte, Diners Club International, Kleinwort
Benson, Kroll, Liverpool & Victoria, Marsh/MMC,
Morgan Grenfell, Morgan Stanley, Price Waterhouse Coopers,
Prudential, Schroders, Standard Bank and UBS.
As an experienced coach, Alastair applies his broad
knowledge to support individuals' increasing insight
into the context of their work and the nature, style
and impact of their personal contributions to organizational
success. Alastair views coaching as a learning process
that provides a unique opportunity for focused reflection
and one of the most valuable ways of supporting continuous
individual development. He believes coaching should
be both a challenging and enjoyable process from which
individuals and their companies emerge better equipped
for the future.
One of Alastair's particular interests
focuses on the challenges facing organizations that
operate across global boundaries. He has designed and
developed a number of tools that assist international
organizations to select and develop individuals with
the capability to operate effectively outside their
home cultures, and with organizations and individuals
from different cultures. He is currently establishing
an international collaborative research program on Global
Leadership Development with Henley Business School,
University of Reading, UK, and the Rady School of Business,
University of California, USA.
Having obtained a first degree
in Business Studies, Alastair took a masters degree
in Industrial Relations before gaining a doctorate for
his research on multinational strategy in Southern Africa.
He worked in the leisure industry and the health sectors,
later moving to Oxford to assume a university teaching
post. While in education he maintained contact with
the corporate world by undertaking research and consultancy
projects but subsequently left education to focus full
time on consulting.
